PeacockOS takes a locked-down phone and turns it into a real computer that answers to you, not the company that sold it. You build the system yourself, run actual Linux, swap the whole distro out later without losing your apps and data, and if it ever breaks it recovers on its own.
This is the project's knowledge base. It is early and moving fast, so expect gaps. Corrections and additions are welcome once you sign in with Peacock SSO.
A phone ships locked. You get the manufacturer's OS and not much say in it. PeacockOS replaces that with a system you assemble for your exact device. Under the hood it is a meta-distro: a small Peacock base, a Linux distribution of your choice on top, and a recovery system that can rescue the phone without a factory reset. Your apps and files live on a layer that survives swapping the distribution underneath.
Everything is open source, with no accounts and nothing phoning home. The same system also boots on a laptop or desktop.
